In a decisive move to curb rising drug abuse and trafficking, the government has issued a stern warning, signaling the imminent implementation of severe consequences for those involved in such activities.

The announcement comes amid a surge in substance abuse cases nationwide, highlighted by the high-profile arrests of soccer players Tumai Matsika, also known as Abbas Amidu (29), Reuben Kudzai Mhlanga, Robert Mugabe Jnr, and popular musician Ras Pombi (Reginald Mano), which have drawn widespread public concern.

Senior government official George Charamba, posting on the social media platform X under the handle "Jamwanda," emphasized the seriousness of the situation. "GUYS, GET WARNED: We are contemplating very ugly measures for those involved in peddling or consuming drugs. It's going to be really ugly!!!!!," he wrote.

This announcement is part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing the escalating drug crisis affecting communities across the country. Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) statistics indicate that Harare alone recorded 5,738 cases of drug abuse from January this year, underscoring the urgent need for decisive action.

Authorities are now poised to implement stringent measures designed to deter drug use and trafficking, sending a clear message that the government will not tolerate such behavior and is committed to safeguarding public health and safety.
