Controversial businessman Wicknell Chivhayo was among the government and ZANU PF delegates who welcomed President Emmerson Mnangagwa back to Zimbabwe this evening following his official visit to Kenya. The reception, held at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, drew attention not only for its ceremonial significance but also for Chivhayo's conspicuous presence alongside senior government officials.

President Mnangagwa returned from Kenya after attending a bilateral engagement focused on trade, investment, and regional cooperation. The visit was part of Zimbabwe's ongoing efforts to strengthen ties within the East African bloc and expand its diplomatic footprint across the continent.

Chivhayo, dressed in formal attire and visibly enthusiastic, was seen greeting the President near the presidential motorcade. His presence alongside Vice Presidents and cabinet ministers raised eyebrows, with some observers questioning protocol and the nature of his involvement in official state functions.

A post shared by C.H. Mukungunugwa on X (formerly Twitter) read:
"Madzibaba Sir Wicknell Chivhayo responds in divine style to a heartfelt testimony of gratitude from a fellow Madzibaba… The spirit of generosity continues!"

The businessman has recently made headlines for his lavish gifts to religious figures and his public displays of loyalty to the ruling party. His proximity to power has sparked debate over the blurred lines between private enterprise and political influence, especially amid ongoing scrutiny of government procurement and corruption allegations.

Chivhayo's appearance at the airport follows a series of high-profile engagements, including his attendance at State House banquets and ZITF tours, where his access to the President has drawn both admiration and criticism. Political analysts have noted that his visibility within ZANU PF circles reflects a broader trend of patronage politics and elite consolidation.

President Mnangagwa, wearing his signature Zimbabwean flag scarf, briefly addressed the welcoming party before departing the airport under tight security. No official statement was issued regarding the outcomes of his Kenya visit, though sources suggest discussions centered on infrastructure investment and agricultural cooperation.

As Zimbabwe approaches a critical political juncture ahead of the 2028 elections, the optics of who surrounds the President - and why - continue to shape public discourse. Chivhayo's role, whether symbolic or strategic, remains a subject of speculation.
