HARARE - Minister of Home Affairs Kazembe Kazembe has issued a strong warning to ZANU-PF Central Committee members, urging them to avoid driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol as they travel to Mutare for the 22nd session of the ZANU-PF National People's Conference.

Speaking at National Heroes Acre following the burial of the late Mpandasekwa Mzheri, Kazembe emphasised the importance of road safety and responsible conduct.

"Your Excellency, we are happy that you gave Central Committee members cars - it has never happened before. So we urge drivers not to drink and drive. Down with drugs!" Kazembe bellowed.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over road accidents, particularly those linked to substance abuse. With thousands of delegates expected to converge in Mutare, the Minister called on all road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.

Kazembe's warning reflects the government's broader commitment to curbing road fatalities, with measures including increased police patrols, public awareness campaigns, and zero tolerance for reckless driving.

"The success of the conference depends on the safe and responsible behaviour of all attendees," he added.

The 22nd ZANU-PF National People's Conference, set to take place in Mutare, will bring together key stakeholders to discuss pressing national issues. The event aims to promote unity, development, and progress within both the party and the country.
