Bulawayo24 News has received two sets of images believed to show the elephant involved in the tragic road accident that claimed the life of Nkulumane Member of Parliament Desire Moyo on Friday, 13 October 2025.

The first set of photos, reportedly taken a day after the accident, shows the fresh carcass of the elephant lying in a grassy area near the Bulawayo–Harare highway. In one image, a group of people is seen around the body, with tools and equipment visible - suggesting efforts to skin and recover parts of the animal. According to local sources, Debshan estate rangers later removed the head, tusks, skin, and meat using a tractor.

The photo is believed to have been taken a day after the accident

The second set, captured this afternoon, reveals the skeletal remains of the same elephant, now significantly decomposed due to intense heat in the region. The ribcage and spine are exposed, and most of the flesh has either rotted or been removed. A man in a red cap, white t-shirt, and grey trousers is seen standing near the remains, believed to be documenting the site.

The photo is believed to have been taken this afternoon, October 16, 2025.

Eyewitness Abel Moyo, a traditional healer and the first person on the scene, confirmed that the elephant was alive at the time of the crash and died shortly after being struck by MP Moyo's vehicle.

"The elephant was hit on its left back foot. It screamed, collapsed, and walked about 200 metres before dying," Abel Moyo said.

He also assisted in removing MP Moyo's body from the wreckage, and is featured in one of the images wearing a red hat, white t-shirt and jeans.

The incident has reignited calls for wildlife warning signage along known migration corridors such as Shangani, where elephants frequently cross major highways. Residents say the absence of such precautions continues to put lives at risk.
