President Emmerson Mnangagwa is scheduled to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Tuesday, 28 October 2025, officially opening the third session of the 10th Parliament.
The announcement was made in the National Assembly by Deputy Speaker Tsitsi Gezi on Thursday.
"I have to inform the House that His Excellency, the President Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, will deliver the State of the Nation Address to mark the official opening of the third session of the Tenth Parliament on Tuesday at 1400 hours," Gezi said.
A General Notice 2162 of 2025, issued under the Constitution (No. 20) Act, 2013, further details the event. It states that the President will address a joint sitting of the Senate and National Assembly in accordance with sections 140(1) and 140(4) of the Constitution, setting out the government's legislative agenda for 2026 and delivering the State of the Nation.
President Mnangagwa's address is expected to review Zimbabwe's economic, social, and political situation, outlining government priorities and policies for the upcoming year. Analysts anticipate discussions on key socio-economic challenges, including youth engagement in drug and substance abuse, as well as strategies to stimulate growth and development.
The opening of Parliament comes amid nationwide debate over Zanu-PF's recent Conference Resolution Number One, which proposes extending President Mnangagwa's tenure by two years, from 2028 to 2030. The resolution has drawn criticism from opposition parties and members of the public, intensifying political discourse ahead of the SONA.
