Dynamos coach Kelvin Kaindu, a man whose coaching philosophy blends tactical discipline with deep spiritual conviction, has urged his charges to focus on winning their own matches and avoid relying on the misfortunes of rivals as the battle for survival in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League reaches its climax.
Speaking after DeMbare's crucial 1-0 victory over Bikita Minerals at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday, Kaindu - who is also a qualified pastor - made it clear that Dynamos' salvation must be earned on the pitch.
"We said we are not going to use calculators to avoid relegation. We want to win our games, and this is what we have done. Hopefully, we maintain our unbeaten record," said Kaindu.
When the Zambian mentor took over, Dynamos were second from bottom, eight points adrift of safety and seemingly destined for relegation. Yet under his guidance, the Glamour Boys have mounted an extraordinary turnaround - going nine matches unbeaten, with six wins and three draws.
Sunday's narrow win over Bikita Minerals lifted Dynamos to 13th place on 37 points, just two games before the end of the season. The result marked a dramatic escape from the dreaded drop zone, as DeMbare had started the day in 17th position.
With one more victory likely enough to secure their top-flight status, Kaindu has transformed despair into renewed belief.
Reflecting on the team's revival, Kaindu was quick to acknowledge his predecessors and attribute part of the change to faith and self-belief.
"Sometimes, even when we are coaching, maybe the other advantage that I have is I also rely on my faith and belief where you think there's no hope," he said.
"I give credit to the other coaches who came before me. They probably came at a very difficult time and the results were not forthcoming. But there isn't much that we have changed. I think we have maintained almost the same team that was playing."
Kaindu pointed out that the major difference since his arrival has been a shift in mindset and communication, instilling confidence and pride in the players.
"Maybe the only thing that has changed is the language, and also just to give confidence to the players that Dynamos is a big brand. We shouldn't be fighting relegation. Our objective as Dynamos is to win," he said.
Kaindu has repeatedly challenged his squad to take responsibility for their fate rather than waiting for other results to go their way.
"We don't want to depend on phone calls to see how the other teams have played. We want to remain consistent," he said. "If we can remain unbeaten, I think it will be good for us to build our confidence."
He admitted that the pressure was immense heading into Sunday's fixture, but was proud of the team's resilience and fighting spirit.
"It wasn't the most beautiful of performances, but what is important is that we managed to get maximum points," Kaindu said.
Dynamos now turn their focus to a high-stakes encounter against Yadah FC this Saturday at Ngoni Stadium, where victory would almost certainly secure their place in next season's Premiership.
For Kaindu, it's another opportunity to blend faith, focus and fight - the same formula that has reignited Dynamos' season and restored hope among their supporters.
