In a bid to strengthen ruling party structures and promote grassroots empowerment, President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday launched a US$200,000 revolving empowerment fund for Zanu-PF wings in Zone 1, Chitungwiza.

The fund will see US$50,000 allocated to each of the party's four wings - the Main Wing, Women's League, War Veterans' League, and Youth League - to support income-generating and community development initiatives.

Speaking at his maiden inter-district meeting convened to deliver resolutions from the 22nd Annual National People's Conference, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, recently co-opted into the Zanu-PF Central Committee, said the initiative was designed to bolster local economic activity and strengthen party structures.

"The Empowerment Fund will be managed by the province," said Dr Tagwirei, emphasising the importance of localised governance and accountability.

Dr Tagwirei also announced a series of community upliftment projects, including plans to drill 80 boreholes across Chitungwiza to improve access to clean water.

"We are going to drill 16 boreholes per constituency in the five constituencies in Chitungwiza," he said.

As part of efforts to foster social cohesion, Dr Tagwirei pledged to distribute 12,500 Christmas hampers to residents, saying the gesture was meant to promote goodwill and unity within the community.

The inter-district meeting, held at the Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex, attracted a crowd of over 20,000 Zanu-PF members and affiliates.

During the meeting, Dr Tagwirei presented a detailed feedback report from the recent National People's Conference, highlighting the party's focus on revitalising key economic sectors and empowering communities.

Zanu-PF's Secretary for Education, Research and Ideology, Cde Charles Tavengwa, delivered a presentation on the party's resolutions, including the endorsement of a key proposal to extend President Mnangagwa's term of office beyond 2028.

"Resolution Number One, which aims to extend President Mnangagwa's term of office beyond 2028, was endorsed by all conference delegates. No objections were raised concerning the resolution," said Cde Tavengwa.

He explained that the resolution was motivated by the desire to allow President Mnangagwa to complete ongoing national development projects, including major infrastructure drives and efforts to stabilise the economy.

The event was attended by several senior Zanu-PF officials, including Cde Omega Hungwe, Cde Douglas Mahiya (Secretary for War Veterans), Cde Tendai Chirau (Deputy Secretary for Security), and Cde Andy Mhlanga (Deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs).

The empowerment initiative is seen as part of the ruling party's broader strategy to deepen community engagement, support self-reliance, and enhance local development in line with President Mnangagwa's "leaving no one and no place behind" mantra.
