BUHERA – ZANU-PF Ward 22 councillor Witness Muchuchu is reportedly embroiled in tensions with villagers, party leadership, and development partners in Buhera Central Constituency, amid accusations of political double-dealing and disruptive conduct.
Muchuchu, believed to be an unofficial returnee from the now-defunct opposition party, was elected during the 2023 harmonised elections in what sources describe as a protest vote against his predecessor. However, his recent actions have sparked outrage among locals and party loyalists.
Speaking anonymously for fear of victimisation, one villager accused Muchuchu of reverting to his "opposition colours," alleging that he has sidelined ZANU-PF members in favour of former opposition allies.
"Muchuchu was a known opposition member. He never officially rejoined ZANU-PF, but due to voter frustration, he won the election. Now he's showing his true colours," the villager said.
The source further claimed that **Presidential and social welfare inputs** are being stored at a known opposition member's premises in Masasa Business Centre, raising concerns about transparency and political bias.
Muchuchu is also accused of reshuffling **school and clinic committees**, allegedly removing ruling party members and replacing them with opposition loyalists.
"He brags that he's untouchable and calls himself the 'owner' of the ward. Development partners are being tossed around despite clearance from higher offices. We are in a fix," the source added.
Efforts to obtain comment from Councillor Muchuchu were unsuccessful, and messages sent to him had not been responded to by the time of publication.
