Zimdancehall musician Tinashe Romeo Antony, popularly known as Shinsoman, is reportedly being detained at Harare Central Police Station in connection with an alleged violation of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act (MASCA).
Details surrounding the alleged offence were still unclear at the time of publication, with police yet to issue an official statement on the matter. Efforts to obtain confirmation from authorities and establish the specific nature of the charge were unsuccessful.
However, sources familiar with the developments said Antony was arrested by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics Unit. It is not yet known when the arrest took place or whether formal charges have been preferred.
The Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act regulates the manufacture, distribution, possession and use of medicines and controlled substances in Zimbabwe. Offences under the Act range from unlawful possession to the illegal sale or handling of regulated substances.
It remains unclear which provision of the Act Shinsoman is alleged to have contravened, and police have not indicated when further details will be made public.
