ZVISHAVANE - A 27‑year‑old man, Silent Muvadi, has been arrested following a shooting incident at Sabi Mine in Zvishavane on 8 February 2026.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Muvadi was part of a group that had allegedly invaded the mine to illegally prospect for gold.

"Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Silent Muvadi, aged 27, in a shooting incident that occurred at Sabi Mining site in Zvishavane, Runde Constituency. The suspect was part of a group of people who had invaded Sabi Mine allegedly to illegally prospect for gold on 8 February 2026 at around 0900 hours," Mahoko said.

He added that security guards approached the group intending to arrest them. While others fled, Muvadi allegedly charged towards the guards while wielding a chisel.

"In view of the danger posed by the charge, one of the security guards, who was armed, fired one shot and struck the suspect on the thigh," Mahoko said.

Muvadi was subdued, arrested and handed over to ZRP Zvishavane. He was taken to Zvishavane Hospital for treatment.

Inspector Mahoko said a docket is being compiled, and Muvadi and his accomplices will face charges of trespassing into Sabi Gold Mine.

"We reiterate our call to the public not to resist lawful arrests. In the same vein, those with interests in mining should formally approach the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development," he said.
