Former Highlanders welfare manager Vezigama Dlodlo, through his lawyers, has formally demanded a meeting with the club over outstanding medical expenses and other financial claims stemming from an injury he sustained while on duty in May 2023.

Dlodlo was involved in a traffic accident on his way to Matopos for a club camp ahead of a league match against Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium. Since then, he has undergone four major surgeries, all self-funded, and now requires a fifth procedure costing approximately US$9,000.

Through Bulawayo lawyer Thulani Ndlovu, Dlodlo has highlighted that Highlanders acknowledged he was injured while performing official duties but has yet to reimburse him for medical costs totaling US$44,000.

The former manager is also claiming US$1,400 in unpaid winning bonuses for four matches, US$5,280 for laundry services, fuel and airtime expenses, and compensation for the loss of his vehicle and diminished earning capacity.

"In light of the foregoing, our client respectfully requests a meeting with the chief executive officer or management, at which he may personally present medical invoices, receipts, and supporting documentation," Ndlovu wrote, giving the club a seven-day ultimatum to respond.

The lawyer further noted that Highlanders failed to remit National Social Security Authority (NSSA) contributions on Dlodlo's behalf, denying him statutory compensation for a work-related injury.

"The prejudice suffered by our client has been significantly exacerbated by the fact that NSSA declined to compensate him for a work-related injury, notwithstanding that NSSA contributions were deducted from his salary by the club," Ndlovu stated.

Highlanders has previously faced similar claims. Former coach Pieter de Jongh's medical claims were dismissed at the club's annual general meeting, while former assistant coach Agent Sawu is pursuing financial claims after his contract was allegedly terminated early.

Dlodlo's case adds to ongoing legal and financial disputes involving the Bulawayo football giants, including lawsuits against the club treasurer by fellow executives.

The club has acknowledged receipt of Dlodlo's correspondence, and the matter is now expected to proceed through formal negotiations or legal channels if unresolved.
