A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Presidential Guard corporal and a civilian accomplice have been arrested after they were allegedly caught trafficking 600 kilogrammes of marijuana at a National Task Force anti‑smuggling roadblock in Bubi, 77km from the Beitbridge Border Post.
According to a police memo, Corporal Alison Maredza and Norest Jingura were arrested on 14 February 2026 at around 7:15am after officers intercepted a white Toyota Hilux, registration AGP 1412, following a tip‑off that the vehicle was transporting dangerous drugs.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 120 cobs of marijuana, each weighing approximately 5kg, giving a combined weight of 600kg with an estimated street value of US$96 000.
Police say Jingura was wearing a Zimbabwe Republic Police uniform and masquerading as an Assistant Inspector.
"Jingura indicated that he was given the uniform by ZRP officer Assistant Inspector Dzingai Takawarasha stationed at Mkushi Academy," the memo states.
The suspects allegedly told investigators they were being paid US$25 per cob, and in this case expected to receive US$3 000 upon delivery of the drugs.
Investigations are ongoing.
