A police officer based in Chimanimani has appeared in court facing a murder charge following the death of a man he allegedly assaulted.
Bhekimpilo Ncube (35), who was in charge of the Chikukwa Police Base, appeared in court accused of causing the death of 34‑year‑old Godman Mtimba.
The court heard that on 25 February 2026, Ncube received a report that Mtimba had been behaving violently in the area. The following day, Mtimba was apprehended and taken to Chikukwa Business Centre, where Ncube was drinking beer.
It is alleged that Ncube attempted to shave the suspect’s beard using a knife. In the process, he cut Mtimba on the chin and cheek, inflicting serious injuries. Ncube later rushed him to Mutambara Hospital, where Mtimba died.
After the victim was pronounced dead, Ncube surrendered himself to the police.
He remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
