Citizens Against Economic Sanctions (CAES) chairman and executive director Martin Zharare is in trouble after being accused of fraud, theft and misappropriation of funds collected from villagers across the country.
Bulawayo24.com has established that CAES has formally expelled Zharare following multiple complaints lodged from various provinces.
According to a letter seen by this publication, Zharare allegedly swindled more than US$26 000 from desperate villagers nationwide.
Police in Mount Darwin have since recorded a case under reference number RRB 6771010.
An insider told this publication that Zharare reportedly dismissed the entire registered board and replaced it with his wife, Evangelister Mutumhe, in what is alleged to have been an attempt to facilitate the siphoning of funds.
“We were disturbed when he fired the whole registered board and appointed his wife as treasurer so that they could smartly steal from people. But we are happy that the board passed a vote of no confidence and expelled him,” the insider said.
Zharare could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone was not going through.
