AN Odzi man who could not stomach his employer's unexpected decision to terminate his contract committed suicide by throwing himself in a mine shaft.
Police confirmed the death of Chenjerai Ngwadzai (29) of Mushunje Village under Chief Marange.
Assistant Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said Ngwadzai failed to accept the reality of being jobless and decided to cut his life short.
"Before he threw himself in a shaft, he had a heated argument with his manager, Moses Mutetwa (29), who had instructed him to go and collect his work suit and gumboots and surrender them since his contract had expired.
"Ngwadzai returned with an axe instead of the work suit and gumboots. The manager, sensing danger, called four security guards to disarm him. Ngwadzai retreated and ran away. The security guards gave chase. He reached an open cast shaft which was eight-metre deep and he threw himself into," he said.
He said police retrieved his body and investigations were in progress.
