Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on members of the ruling party to strictly adhere to the Zanu-PF Constitution in carrying out their duties, saying discipline and loyalty remain central to the organisation's cohesion and effectiveness.
Addressing the 392nd session of the Politburo in Harare, Mnangagwa said all party members, including senior leadership, are first and foremost guided by the party constitution and its provisions governing conduct, obligations and political discipline.
"As the Politburo, we are all first and foremost party members, guided by the party Constitution, fundamentally about our duties and obligations," he said, adding that members should re-familiarise themselves with the amended 2022 constitution.
He specifically referenced Article 3, Section 19, sub-sections 1 to 8, which outlines the duties of members within the party structure.
The provisions require members to remain loyal to the party and its leadership, and to observe and respect its constitution, policies, rules and regulations. They also emphasise the importance of exemplary leadership, political discipline, and conduct that upholds the party's reputation.
Mnangagwa further highlighted that members are expected to actively promote the party's interests, strengthen its structures, and deepen their understanding of its policies.
The constitution also calls on members to conduct themselves honestly and honourably in both party and public engagements, while avoiding actions that could bring the party or its leadership into disrepute.
Additionally, members are required to demonstrate patriotism towards the country and fulfil their financial obligations to the party through subscriptions and contributions when required.
The President's remarks come as Zanu-PF continues to reinforce internal discipline and organisational cohesion within its structures ahead of key political and policy engagements.
