Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has confirmed he will proceed with a promised reward for Dynamos despite their defeat to rivals CAPS United in the Harare Derby over the weekend.
The announcement follows the high-profile match at Rufaro Stadium, where Dynamos lost to CAPS United in a tightly contested encounter that ended 2–1 in favour of the Green Machine.
Chivayo had earlier pledged a 65-seater bus for Dynamos if they won the match, a promise made during a radio interview on Capitalk FM. However, after the result went against the Glamour Boys, he faced public ridicule and criticism on social media over the conditional pledge.
In a strongly worded statement, Chivayo said he had been surprised by the reaction to his remarks, insisting that his commitment to the club would stand regardless of the outcome.
"I therefore REFUSE to reduce myself into someone who only stands by his word when circumstances are FAVOURABLE," he said.
He confirmed that Dynamos will still receive a brand-new 65-seater bus, alongside an additional US$50,000 cash incentive for the players as motivation despite the loss.
"Accordingly, I say a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the GLAMOUR BOYS!!! I will STILL proceed with purchasing a BRAND-NEW 65 seater BUS for Dynamos Football Club," he said.
He added that the gesture was not formal sponsorship but rather an expression of appreciation for the club's supporters and players.
Chivayo also praised Dynamos fans for their loyalty, noting their strong turnout at Rufaro Stadium despite the defeat.
He said the club, one of Zimbabwe's most decorated football institutions, remains a symbol of national sporting heritage.
"DYNAMOS is a HOUSEHOLD NAME and part of Zimbabwe's football history," he said.
The businessman further said club management had been advised to contact his legal representative, Mr Sikhumbuzo Mpofu, to facilitate the handover of the bus registration details.
Chivayo used the statement to reflect on public perceptions of success, saying he often receives more recognition abroad than locally.
"I must say it's actually SURPRISING how outside Zimbabwe, the ‘BIG' name ‘CHIVAYO' is received with RESPECT and treated to RED CARPET receptions," he said.
He added that he remained committed to supporting football and promoting unity through sport, urging fans to avoid division and hostility.
"Football must UNITE US and inspire healthy competition rather than hatred and division," he said.
Dynamos now benefit from both financial and logistical support despite the derby defeat, while CAPS United climbed back to the top of the league standings following their victory.
