The Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO) has recorded a 75 percent pass rate in the March 2026 examination session, reflecting continued improvement in Zimbabwe's technical and vocational education sector.

The results show an increase from 70 percent in the November/December 2025 main examinations and a notable rise from 67 percent recorded in March 2025, indicating steady progress in student performance across polytechnics and vocational training institutions.

Education authorities attributed the improved outcomes to enhanced teaching methods, better resource allocation, and increased student commitment in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.

HEXCO chief executive officer Fanuel Tagwira said the upward trend demonstrates that ongoing reforms in the sector are yielding positive results.

"The results are encouraging and confirm that the interventions we put in place are yielding results," he said. "A sustained rise in pass rates shows our students are responding well, and it gives us confidence that technical and vocational education is on the right path."

Although the March examination session typically attracts fewer candidates than the main November/December session, stakeholders say the consistent improvement across both cycles is an important indicator of progress in skills development.

Education experts have welcomed the trend, saying it supports Zimbabwe's broader industrialisation and skills development agenda.

The improved performance is expected to boost confidence in technical colleges and vocational institutions, which play a key role in producing skilled graduates for the economy of Zimbabwe.
