Mnangagwa mourns Masarira

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed condolences following the death of opposition leader Ms Linda Tsungirirai Masarira, describing her as a courageous political figure who contributed meaningfully to national dialogue and civic engagement.
Ms Masarira, the leader of the Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) party, died on Sunday morning at the age of 43.
In his condolence message, the President said her passing was a loss to her family, the nation, and women across Zimbabwe.
"It is with a heavy heart that I learnt of the passing on of Ms Linda Tsungirirai Masarira, the leader of the opposition Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) party," he said.
"Her departure is a great loss to her family, to the women of Zimbabwe, and to the nation at large."
President Mnangagwa said Government, Zanu-PF and the nation joined the Masarira family in mourning her, noting her role as a bold and outspoken voice in Zimbabwe's political space.
He said she consistently promoted dialogue, constitutionalism and national unity, and participated in platforms such as the Political Actors Dialogue, where she engaged across political divides.
"She demonstrated that Zimbabweans of diverse political backgrounds can disagree without being enemies and can work together for the common good," he said.
The President also encouraged young women to draw inspiration from her legacy and participate actively in national affairs.
"May the legacy of Cde Masarira inspire others, especially young women, to participate actively and responsibly in the affairs of their country," he said.
He extended condolences to the Masarira family and wished her soul eternal peace.
