The MDC Restoration leadership has announced the formation of four working committees as part of renewed efforts to prepare for the long‑delayed party Congress, saying the responsibility to move the movement forward “can no longer be delayed”.
In a public statement dated 13 July 2026, the Provincial Representatives (PRs) said they held a “productive meeting” on Sunday, 12 July, where they resolved to establish committees responsible for organising and mobilising, finance, information and publicity, and security.
The PRs expressed concern over the lack of progress since the High Court judgment of 28 February 2025, which nullified Douglas Mwonzora’s 2022 Congress and ordered the convening of a fresh Congress within six months. Nearly eighteen months have passed without the directive being implemented.
According to the statement, the creation of the committees marks “the beginning of a coordinated and practical effort to organise a legitimate, democratic and constitutionally compliant Congress”, with the PRs emphasising urgency, transparency and broad member participation.
The MDC Restoration leadership is now calling on members to volunteer their skills and professional experience by joining the committees.
“The success of this process depends on the collective commitment, expertise and dedication of our members,” the statement reads. “Together, we have the opportunity to rebuild our party, restore constitutional order and reaffirm the democratic values upon which the MDC was founded.”
Members wishing to serve on any of the committees have been encouraged to submit their preferred roles through the Organizing & Mobilization Committee or the designated coordinating team.
The announcement signals a renewed push to revive internal processes within the MDC Restoration faction, which has been working to re‑establish structures following the court ruling. The developments come amid ongoing debates within opposition circles over party renewal, constitutional compliance and leadership legitimacy, themes widely discussed across platforms such as Zimbabwe opposition politics forums.
