UK based Zimbabwean community champion killed in M62 tragedy

A devastating road tragedy has left the Zimbabwean community in the United Kingdom and beyond in mourning after a respected community champion, philanthropist and proud ambassador of Zimbabwean culture was killed in a horrific collision on the M62 in Rochdale.
According to Greater Manchester Police, the fatal crash occurred at around 11pm on Saturday, 11 July 2026, between Junctions 21 and 22 of the motorway.
Police said a grey Nissan Juke collided head‑on with a grey BMW X5 after the Nissan is believed to have been travelling in the wrong direction on the eastbound carriageway. The driver of the Nissan, a woman in her 50s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the BMW sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment.
Although police have not yet officially released her identity, the deceased is understood to be a hardworking Zimbabwean woman widely admired for her philanthropic work in the UK and in Zimbabwe. Friends and community members described her as a beacon of hope, compassion and unity — someone who uplifted others through charity, cultural advocacy and unwavering service.
