HOME Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe has described President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a committed constitutionalist, saying the recent constitutional reforms demonstrate his administration’s adherence to the rule of law and respect for Zimbabwe’s supreme law.

Minister Kazembe made the remarks while addressing mourners at the burial of national hero Major-General (Retired) Richard Ruwodo, at the National Heroes Acre yesterday.

“Your Excellency, everything that happens in life does so because God would have allowed it,” he said.

“You have always admonished us that whatever we plan, we should end by saying ‘if God permits’ because everything happens according to God’s plan.

“You and your colleague war veterans encountered many challenges during the liberation struggle, but survived. We believe God allowed you to survive all those dangers so that you could sign the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 3 as you did last week. We want to thank you, Your Excellency; you are a true constitutionalist.”

Minister Kazembe said the President allowed constitutional processes to take their course without interference.

“You are indeed a true constitutionalist. You allowed the Constitution to be amended constitutionally,” he said.

Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Act No. 3 was signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last Tuesday, marking what Government has described as a significant milestone in the country’s constitutional and democratic development.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda said the enactment of the law reflected the collective will of the people and the strength of national institutions.

Government has since announced plans to roll out a nationwide awareness campaign to educate citizens on the provisions of the new law and ensure that the public understands the changes introduced under the Act.
