THE MDC-T has filed an application at the nomination court seeking to withdraw nomination papers filed by nine of its Chitungwiza members after it emerged that they allegedly used forged party documents to have their candidatures confirmed.

According to the party, the nine successfully filed nomination papers to stand as MDC-T council candidates in the forthcoming harmonised polls using provincial chairman Alexio Musundire's forged signature.

Both party spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora and Musundire confirmed the development last Friday.
"I have spoken to Musundire on the issue and advised that the people in question either forged his signature or scanned it. He has instructed lawyers to file an application in the nomination court for an order that these candidates be disqualified. I hope it will be heard quickly," he said.

Musundire said he filed the papers on Tuesday seeking to block the candidates who wanted to stand on an MDC-T ticket.

These are former councillors Boniface Manyonganise, Matthew Ngarande, Brighton Kanyama, David Rukweza, Wendy Chirindi, Tinashe Kazuru, Muchaneta Zimura Garata, Wellington Bhebhe and Tichaona Munhepi.

Meanwhile, the MDC-T said it had also taken legal action against former Sunningdale councillor Musa Macheza for illegally filing his nomination papers on a party ticket. newsday
