Run-off elections currently underway

Run-off elections are being held in Kadoma Municipality Ward 4 (Mashonaland West), Kusile Rural District Council Ward 5 (Matabeleland North) and Mutasa Rural District Council Ward 30 (Manicaland) after candidates who contested in the July 31 harmonised elections garnered equal votes.
The new Constitution stipulates that where there is a tie in votes, a by-election should be held unlike in the past where candidates drew lots or tossed a coin to break the deadlock.
Matabeleland North PEO Mark Ndlovu says all four polling stations opened by 7 am and the longest queues could be seen at Kana primary school. The process is going on well and some have been turned away because they are not registered. About 2120 people are expected to vote for Ward 5 councillor. There are two candidates contesting - Soneni Tshuma (Zanu-PF) and Ubunene Ncube (MDC-T).
Kadoma Municipality ward 4
There are no queues at the two polling stations with people walking in at intervals to cast their votes.
A total of 151 people had cast their ballot by 10am at Rimuka No 4 Grounds polling station while 123 people had voted at Mabanana Creche polling station.
At least 13 people had been turned away by 10am for not appearing on the voter's roll and others for trying to vote in the wrong ward.
At least 596 people had cast their ballot by 3pm. There are no reported incidents of violations of the Electoral Act in what is being largely viewed as a peaceful election.
ZEC provincial elections manager Mr Kenneth Kwaramba says the number of people going to cast their vote is expected to increase marginally after 4pm as people knock off from work.
