Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Chiwenga has paid tribute to the late Brigadier General Misheck Tanyanyiwa's dedication to duty saying his tenure as a Defence Attaché in China greatly improved relations between the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
General Chiwenga made the remarks at a funeral parade for the late Brigadier General Tanyanyiwa held at One Commando barracks on Friday afternoon.
The late national hero, whose Chimurenga name was 'Nemi Tichapedzerana', died on the 26th November in Beijing, China.
Addressing mourners who included the Minister of Defence, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, service chiefs and Minister of State for Harare province, Mirriam Chikukwa and Zimbabwe's ambassador to China Frederick Shava, General Chiwenga chronicled Brigadier General Tanyanyiwa's military and civilian career which began way back in the days of the liberation struggle.
He said the late Brigadier General was a consistent and dependable man who distinguished himself as a hard worker.
Wing Commander Memory Mashavave, who is Deputy Defence Attaché in China and Air Commodore Biltim Chingono, who is Zimbawe's Defence Attaché to Russia, said the late Brigadier General was a principled man.
Brigadier General Tanyanyiwa was born on the 13th of May 1955 in Bindura and he joined the liberation struggle in 1975.
He was among the second group of recruits that was selected at Nyadzonya camp to undergo basic guerrilla training at Mgagao training camp in Tanzania in 1976.
Later in his career he was deployed to China as Defence Attaché in January 2006, a post he held until the time of his death.
The body of the late Brigadier General Tanyanyiwa was taken to his home in Marondera soon after the parade.
He was declared national hero and will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Sunday.
