The two-day congress of the Zimbabwe Liberation War Veterans Association has ended at Great Zimbabwe Hotel in Masvingo with the new chairman, Christopher Mutsvangwa calling on Vice President and Second Secretary of Zanu-PF, Dr Joice Mujuru to reconsider her position in the party following allegations of planning President Robert Mugabe's ouster.
Apart from an alleged plot to topple President Mugabe, Dr Mujuru also is overwhelmed by allegations of corruption and other anti-party activities.
Mutsvangwa welcomed the expulsion of his predecessor, Jabulani Sibanda for several party transgressions and also asked for stronger action to be taken against Dzikamai Mavhaire, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti and Nicholas Goche.
Mutsvangwa also said the congress unanimously agreed to back Mugabe at the December elective congress.
He said the congress also recommended that the First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe be considered for appointment as the party's National Secretary for Women Affairs.
The war veterans also said, from now on wards, they will not be on-lookers in the governance of the country.
The new office bearers are Headman Moyo who assumed the Vice Chair position, Victor Matemadanda (Secretary General), Robert Ncube (Treasurer General), Francis Nhando (Political Commissar), Malaki Mpofu (Secretary for Security) and Mandi Chimene (Secretary for Information and Publicity).
Charles Mpofu assumed the position of Secretary for Transport and Welfare, while Chief Chivese assumed the position of Secretary for Legal Affairs.
Ester Munyaradzi assumed the position of Secretary for Women's Affairs.
