President Robert Mugabe has come under fire after he called for diasporans to bring cash into Zimbabwe to assist the government to revive the economy amid their attack that he now wants their money when all along he has been mocking them for leaving their country to bath and care for old white people in Britain and other western countries.
Mugabe while speaking in Ethiopia he urged diasporans to change the face of Zimbabwe with their money.
Mugabe said Ethiopians in the diaspora had changed their country with their remittances and there was no reason why Zimbabweans could not do the same.
He was speaking during a meeting with the Zimbabwean community led by their patron, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi and the President of the AmaZimbabwe Association, Rodney Kiwa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
President Mugabe said Zimbabweans should be law abiding in their host countries and should not deny their children a chance to learn their mother tongue. Ambassador Chimbindi congratulated President Mugabe for assuming the African Union chair and for implementing various developmental programmes in Zimbabwe.
But this sparked an outburst of barrage of attacks from Zimbabwean living abroad who accused him of wanting their money now yet at some point he accused them of leaving their country to work as care givers of the old white men.
Mark Longhurst said Mugabe he has been stealing the diasporas money for 30 years through the notorious CIO , they were the ones creating the black market when Zimbabwe dollar went down and that is why former Reserve Bank Governor Gedion Gono allowed it to happen.
Milton Tendengu said Mugabe now wants the money we got from bathing old people?
Nhlanhla Dube said Mugabe's plea for cash is a sign of desperation as the economy nose dive beyond expectations hence an effort to form a coalition with the diasporians and coalesce with them but it is an impossible call as things have crumbled in all spheres of life.
Tapiwa Tabheni said, "So ironic how Mugabe asks for cash from people who he has haunted out of Zimbabwe. How can he ask for cash from people he has denied the right to vote?"
Edward Tafi-Madzara said, "How does Bob today ask for money we got through bathing old people here? He must get away from us and let him enjoy the so called tobacco growing boom and death of maize fields."
Blaz John said Mugabe why would Mugabe want cash from diasporans but he doesn't want them to vote. "Its Hypocrisy," he said.
Richman Mathema said the comments he have read so far points that all diasporians want to assist the country with whatever little they have.
"I am also alluding to your call my president. At the same time listen to our concerns and act on them. We are concerned about corruption and your failure to act on corrupt ministers etc. Personally I wish you can do like what your counterpart Uhuru has done," he said.
