Desmond Duri, Masvingo - Joshua Moyo has emerged the candidate to represent Zanu-PF in the Mwenezi East by-election slated for September this year after trouncing nine other contestants in a primary election that was conducted in the constituency's 24 party districts.
Moyo polled 1203 votes ahead of first and second runners-up Marvellous Chifumuro and Webster Muzara who registered 893 and 812 votes respectively.
Commenting on the polls, Elections Supervisor July Moyo, who is also Zanu PF's Deputy Secretary for Administration in the Politburo, hailed the contesting parties for exhibiting high levels of discipline and peace before, during and after the elections.
He urged the losing candidates to join hands and support Joshua Moyo ahead of by-elections to be conducted mid September.
July Moyo thanked the Matabeleland South chairperson Ravaleni Choweni for the provision of the required human capital to supervise the election throughout the 24 polling stations.
He implored the winning candidate to start working towards winning the forthcoming by-election, while urging the losing candidates to rally behind the winner.
A total of 4942 valid ballots were cast, while 146 were spoilt, bringing the total votes cast to 5098.
There were 24 polling stations across Mwenezi East constituency where voting slowly began at 10 am.
When the ZBC News visited most of the polling stations some voters claimed that they were being turned away because their names were not on the voters roll.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Katsiru has won the Zanu PF primary election for the Marondera Central constituency.
He clinched 1 254 votes beating 10 others.
The seat fell vacant after the expulsion from Zanu PF of Ray Kaukonde and the by-election will be held in September.
