The Election Resources Centre Zimbabwe has said it has started monitoring the by-elections to be held in Mudzi West after the seat fell vacant when the incumbent member died.
The Election Resource Centre - a think tank and advocacy institution on elections and democracy- revealed it is now monitoring the Mudzi West by-election.
The Mudzi West by election was necessitated by the death of Aquiline Katsande who was the Member of Parliament. She passed away on 28 March 2015. The President on 8 May, in accordance with the Electoral Act, Section 39 (2) proclaimed the date of the 21st of May 2015 as the date for Nomination Court and election on the 24th of July 2015.
"Consistent with its vision of a Zimbabwe with transparent, credible and inclusive electoral processes, the ERC deployed mobile teams that will be monitoring the election before, during and after the election," said the organisation in a statement.
"In particular the environment, administrative and legislative frameworks."
The organisation said under section 67(3) of the Constitution, every adult citizen has the right to vote in all elections hence the ERC urges the Mudzi West electorate to go out in their numbers to exercise their democratic right to elect the Member of Parliament they want.
"The ERC will be posting live updates as the election on its Social Media platforms (Facebook- Election Resource Centre Zimbabwe and Youthdecidezw and Twitter page erczimbabwe)," said the organisation.
