Mujuru's re-entry into politics refreshing

The Progressive Democrats of Zimbabwe Party Spokesperson Leonard Koni has said the entering of former vice President Joice Runaida Mujuru into the Zimbabwean political arena after her unpredictable ouster from the ruling party is so refreshing and will breath another fresh air to the country's politics.

"There is this hullabaloo about her entrance into politics to challenge her former party Zanu PF led by the veteran Robert Gabriel Mugabe come 2018. This latest development in Zimbabwe's opposition circles, will see the likes of Morgan Tsvangirai, Joyce Mujuru, Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma, Welshman Ncube, Barbara Nyagomo, Dumiso Dabengwa, Simba Makoni, Jacob Ngaribvume, Margaret Dongo, Lovemore Madhuku, Marcellina Chikasha, Kisnote Mukwazhi, Egypt Dzinemunenzva sharpening their swords to remove the ruling party from power," he said.

Koni said the Zimbabwean electorate are in for a shock in their next election and this country is in need of a president who has a vision to articulate a modern democracy. Zimbabwe now needs a leader who is equipped with modern leadership qualities in order to give the masses better solutions to the challenges facing the country.

"The country is also looking for a leader who is accommodative regardless of their political, social and economic status. We cannot afford to isolate ourselves in this global world," he said.

"Zimbabwe needs a leader who will ruthlessly deal with corruption which has killed the moral fibre of this country for the past 34 years. Racism and tribalism, hate speeches are also other issues which should be tackled by whoever is going to be elected in 2018."

The spokesperson said Zimbabwe needs a leader who will forge unity amongst the people. We cannot run away from the fact that leaders come and leaders go but the country and the people will stay.

"The baton should be passed and that is the truth,"Koni said.

"The challenges facing these opposition political parties are that they lack ideology and lack consistency in their policies. A powerful coalition of such a combination of these political parties will easily dislodge Zanu PF from power. Zimbabweans are very good at crafting and drafting manifestos and economic blue prints but with zero implementation."

He said whoever is elected must make sure that they implement such policy documents not just to shelf them and gather dust.

"I believe we have the better leadership in. Zimbabwe but there are some other people who think that they were anointed by God to lead. Let us try and exhaust other avenues, thus if plan A fails we have to adopt plan B and see the results emanating from such an equation. We want to go back to the original Zimbabwe where we used to be the bread basket of the region," he said. "Zimbabwe can be a cradle of Africa if we unite for a common cause."
