President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed veteran politician Didymus Mutasa to the ZAnu-PF Elders Council, reviving a political career that had largely remained dormant since the fall of former leader Robert Mugabe.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Zanu-PF secretary for information and publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa.
Mnangagwa, who also serves as the ruling party's First Secretary, approved Mutasa's return to party structures after years on the sidelines following his fallout with Mugabe's administration during the factional battles that preceded the former leader's removal from power in 2017.
Before his political eclipse, Mutasa held several key positions in government and the ruling party. He served as Minister of State for National Security in the President's Office and was also Zanu-PF secretary for administration - one of the party's most influential posts.
His appointment to the Elders Council signals a renewed role within the party's advisory structures.
The ZANU–PF Elders Council is a consultative body made up of senior and long-serving party members tasked with providing strategic guidance and institutional memory to the ruling party's leadership.
The body was established to bring experienced party stalwarts into advisory roles while helping to preserve the party's ideological direction and internal cohesion.
