President Robert Mugabe was today silent on the pay delays for the military during his Defence Forces Day speech.

Mugabe restricted himself to revealing that the military recently bought a new fleet of vehicles to carry troops, cars for its staff and buses to transport personnel to work.

"Efforts are still under way to provide decent accommodation to members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces," he said, without giving details.

He added "Our forces are often deployed under the auspices of international bodies like the United Nations....our soldiers without exception have demonstrated the highest level of discipline, they indeed make us proud,"

"Although the war of liberation ended 36 years ago, our country is still faced with remnants of war in the form of unexploded ordinates particularly so along our border with Mozambique where our ZDF is involved in demining....they provide support to ZRP in the guarding of the country's key installations".

The military and other civil servants have endured two straight months of lengthy salary delays.
