THE Gweru woman, who made headlines late last year, when she attempted to block a wedding ceremony claiming to be taking a cue from Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's estranged wife, Ms Locardia Karimatsenga, is now suing her ex-lover for $5 000 for breach of promise to marry her.
According to court papers in possession of Chronicle, Ms Muchaneta Mushipe is accusing her ex-boyfriend, Mr Raphael Ndamba, of dumping her for another woman, Ms Diana Hwinya.
A pre-trial date for the case is set for Friday at the Gweru Civil Court after Mr Ndamba filed opposing affidavits.
"In 2006 plaintiff (Ms Mushipe) and defendant, (Mr Ndamba) fell in love at Umsungwe Block, Gweru. Plaintiff and defendant stayed together and cohabited alternating between plaintiff and defendant's domiciles," reads part of the founding affidavit by Ms Mushipe.
Ms Mushipe further states that Mr Ndamba sired a child with her and that the two went to her relatives together after they had promised to marry each other.
"The defendant had promised to marry the plaintiff and went to the plaintiff's Zvishavane homestead and assured plaintiff's father, uncle and sisters that he was going to marry the plaintiff. The defendant bought groceries and gave them to plaintiff's relatives to evince his serious intention to marry," further reads the affidavit.
Ms Mushipe further stated that she suffered severe damages when the defendant later wedded another woman late last year and therefore was demanding $5 000 in damages.
She is also arguing that her age can no longer attract men and her chances of marrying are now very slim.
Mr Ndamba in his opposing affidavits, however, argued that he never intended to marry Ms Mushipe.
Mr Ndamba said his relationship with Ms Mushipe was meant to satisfy one another sexually and nothing more.
"The defendant never promised to marry the plaintiff at any given time and puts plaintiff to strict proof thereof. The defendant further states that plaintiff was married and is a widow and the sexual relationship defendant had with the plaintiff was purely for sexual gratification," reads part of Mr Ndamba's opposing affidavit.
Ms Mushipe stunned congregants of the Awake Ministries Church late last year when she stood up and tried to block Mr Ndamba from marrying Ms Hwinya.
Ms Mushipe was, however, dragged out of the church by other church members to allow the wedding to proceed.
This was after the congregants thought that she was trying to make fun out of the event after she announced that she was inspired to act in that manner by PM Tsvangirai's wife, Ms Karimatsenga.
Ms Karimatsenga contested and won a case against PM Tsvangirai when he wanted to marry Ms Elizabeth Macheka ahead of her.
