A MAN who did not like being called to order by his mother ended up removing one of her eyes with a metal bar in a bloody fight.

The incident is now the talk of Poland resettlement, village 1 in Inyathi, Matabeleland North.

Emmanuel Moyo has since appeared before magistrate on circuit in the area Mr Ndumo Masuku facing an attempted murder charge.

It is the State's case that Moyo went home in the evening sometime last month in a drunken state and started to accuse his mother Nozipho of bringing different men to their residence. However, that did not go down well with Nozipho who slapped her son on the face and  unleashed insults at him.

In a fit of rage, Emmanuel picked up a metal bar and hit his charging mother on the face. As a result the court heard Nozipho collapsed and was rushed to hospital. One of the neighbours reported the matter to the police leading to Emmanuel's arrest.

In his defence, Emmanuel regretted his actions.   "I admit that I hit my mother with a metal and gouged out her eye unintentionally. I am really sorry for such a mishap. I did that out of anger."

However, his mother said he always beats her up when drunk and lashes out insults.

"Your worship I am fed up with him. He always beats me up when he is from the bottle store in the evening. Last month we had a tense quarrel; he picked up a metal and hit me on the face. I screamed for help as he was saying he wants to kill me. Neighbours came to my rescue. They tied him and took him to the police," she said.

Mr Lungisani Dube appeared for the state. The accused was remanded in custody to 13 March.
