Highlanders 1 - 0 Shooting Stars
HIGHLANDERS continued with their fine run of form as they narrowly defeated Shooting Stars at a rain soaked Gwanzura Stadium Saturday.
Lawson Nkomo crafted the goal when he crossed the ball into the Shooting Stars box to find Vincent Nzombe who headed the ball home in the 61st minute for Bosso to collect maximum points.
Highlanders who looked more like the home side with its supporters virtually painted Gwanzura black and white, took control in the early minutes of the game and never looked back forcing the Shooting stars rear guard to work overtime.
The evergreen Njabulo Ncube nearly snatched the lead after beating an ill plotted offside trap on the 17th minute but he failed to connect a Louis Matawu cross.
Nzombe could have scored earlier on the eighth minute after he was set up by Ncube in the box but he failed to manoeuvre the slippery turf and ended up shooting a weak ball to Pedzisai Gumiremhete.
Not even the introduction of former Bosso striker Patrick Mpofu who came in for Amon Mudukuti in 81st minute could save the Wild Boys.
Bosso have now raked 11 points from six games and are now third on the log table while Shooting Stars remained on three points from the same number of games. Bosso moved from sixth position.
Highlanders coach Mkhupali Masuku was content with the result and the performance of his charges.
"They never threatened us. Our plan was to endure and we did exactly that. All the boys played well but Nzombe was exceptional as he did everything," remarked Masuku.
The new Shooting Stars mentor Patson Ndabambi said although they lost the match he is happy that the team is responding to training.
"It is unfortunate that we conceded the goal, Gumiremhete has a groin problem and he was just coming from conducting when Nzombe struck and he couldn't take off otherwise the boys are doing well they are adjusting to whatever we are teaching them," said Ndabambi.
The game was Ndabambi's third as Shooting Stars coach; he has won one game and suffered two defeats at the hands of Chicken Inn and Highlanders respective
