Arsenal manager Wenger says that the January transfer window should be shut for good because it is creating an uneven playing field.

Wenger thinks the window creates unfairness in the competition and should be abandoned.

He told the club's official website: "I am against the transfer period in the middle of the season because I feel it is unfair. I don't find it right.

"If you look at it, some teams have already played some teams twice and others not at all.

"You can question the fairness of the league and the way the fixtures are organised considering that you have a real transfer market opening in January."

Wenger has also defended Arsenal's lack of transfer activity while his rivals were spending and has said he would not pay £35 million, the sum Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Carroll, on one player.

Wenger added: "If you look at our transfer record, we have never spent more than £15m - that gives you the answer.

"We are in the market always because if a good opportunity comes up we will always take it, but we are not in a desperate situation."
