Dembare's 'bad boy' in trouble

DYNAMOS will act on "bad boy" Rodrick Mutuma, who was shown a straight red card for kicking Highlanders striker Ralph Matema in yesterday's Easycall Cup semi-final at Barbourfields Stadium.
Mutuma only played yesterday after his four-match suspension by the Premier Soccer League was put on hold after Dynamos appealed against a ruling that found him and striking partner Takesure Chinyama guilty of threateningly charging at referee Philan Ncube after the final of the Chibuku Super Cup against Harare City recently.
Following the ruling that was released on Sunday last week, DeMbare threatened to boycott yesterday's semi-final encounter unless Mutuma and Chinyama were allowed to play.
Highlanders played the match under protest, with chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede getting their letter of protest signed by match commissioner Sabelo Sibindi and referee Ruzive Ruzive.
Bosso argued that due diligence was not done when dealing with the Mutuma-Chinyama appeal. They said Dynamos should have appealed through the Zifa Appeals' desk. So much was expected from the two misfiring Dynamos strikers, but they failed to deliver when it mattered most.
However, Mutuma threw dirt into his team's management that had backed him by kicking and spitting at Matema in an incident captured live on SuperSport.
Mutuma was sent off in the 88th minute when Dynamos were searching for an equaliser. Maybe DeMbare could have equalised had he been on the pitch as they were pressing the Bosso backline. An irate Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya said the club will act on Mutuma.
"I'm very disappointed with the red card Mutuma got. I didn't expect that, especially from a senior player like him after the club had done everything to get him available for this match. With all the efforts that were made during the week for him to play in this game and he goes on to get a silly red card is very disturbing. As a club we can't allow such kind of indiscipline and we're certainly going to sit down and deal with this issue," said Ndiraya.
Gumede also condemned Mutuma's behaviour.
"One of the culprits of bringing football into disrepute demonstrated the unsportmanship behaviour through his brutal retaliation and even went on to spit at our player. Unfortunately, rules don't warrant that he be given another red card since he had already been booked, but we trust that the referee and the match commissioner recorded that incident. We now wait to see and hear what direction the PSL will take in dealing with such a horrendous act by Mutuma," said Gumede.
