Econet named employer of choice

LEADING telecommunications company Econet has been named employer of choice by university students and graduates, a survey of students has shown. The survey was conducted by Datasol Zimbabwe and CV People Africa in four universities, University of Zimbabwe (UZ), National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Midlands State University (MSU) and Bindura University last month.

Six hundred and two current and former university students who graduated between 2011 and 2013 participated in the survey.

The survey report shows that Econet was ranked first for the overall 2013 employer choice rankings with 17, 4 percent followed by Mbada Diamonds and Delta with 16, 5 percent and 8,3 percent respectively. Econet was ranked first position by Nust and UZ and ranked second by MSU and Bindura University on students' top six choice of companies.

Econet proved to the best possible and ideal employer in most areas of study. Most students studying commerce/business, Engineering, Industrial Technology, Communication and Information Science and those studying Science, Applied science, Science and Technology chose Econet as the most ideal possible employer.

It also appeared at the top of the top ten companies' selection by gender in both the males and females list. The survey was meant to create a platform for communication between employers and their prospective future employees.

It was aimed at making employers understand which employment attributes matter to their future employees so that they invest in creating ideal work environments to improve on their student engagement strategies.

The survey was not restricted to employer rankings only but it gives the employer an insight into students' attitude and opinions towards companies in Zimbabwe.
