THERE was commotion at Manor Hotel in Bulawayo on Friday as fans ran riot after Peter Moyo failed to turn up for a show where he was supposed to share the stage with Tryson Chimbetu.

Chimbetu performed alone at the venue and fans lost patience after realising that Moyo, popularly known as Young Igwe, was nowhere near the venue when he was supposed to take to the stage.

The incident came at a time when most promoters in Harare are complaining that Moyo is becoming big-headed as he continually comes late for shows.

Police had to intervene to prevent an ugly situation at Manor Hotel around midnight as fans demanded to be repaid after Moyo's no show.

Chimbetu said he was surprised to realise Moyo was not at the venue when they were supposed to share the stage. Their show was one of the many shows in Bulawayo last weekend featuring musicians like Oliver Mtukudzi, Suluman Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah.

"I did my part and went off the stage. I thought Peter was around and would go on stage after our slot.  After some minutes fans got impatient and there was commotion in the venue. That is when I realised Peter was not at the venue.

"Fans demanded refunds and there was a bad scenario as security personnel tried to calm the situation down. The police had to intervene to solve the situation.

"No refunds were made and people were called to leave the venue as police ordered its immediate closure just after midnight.
Moyo said he decided to settle for another show in Gweru at Takarangana Nightclub in Mukoba because Bulawayo had too many shows.

"There were too many shows in Bulawayo and I knew it would be difficult for me and Tryson to attract a profitable crowd. When you have names like Tuku, Sulu and Jah Prayzah in the same city, it does not make business sense to have another show there."

In Harare, promoters are complaining about Moyo's behaviour, which they have termed uncouth. Moyo is said to be coming late for shows and the promoters have lost confidence in him.

The Utakataka Express leader was nearly beaten up by irate fans after he arrived late for his family show at Extra Mile Leisure Spot on Sunday November 30.

Such was the ire of fans that they ended up booing him for the greater part of the show because they felt that they were being taken for granted.

Reports are that Moyo was scheduled to get on stage at 7pm just after Extra Kwazvose but they showed up one hour later and explanation was that he was caught up in a traffic jam at Mbudzi roundabout.

His guitarists had warmed the stage for him but the fans became impatient and chased them off stage calling for the return of Extra Kwazvose who had thrilled the crowd with their "sando" dance.

"Peter is becoming big-headed. He is repeating what he did at New Life recently. He has to know that this is a family show and we came with our kids but they are already asleep now," said one furious fan.

This followed another show he had at New Life Nightclub where he also performed late. New Life owner Fidelis Ngove confirmed that Peter came late for the show.

"Peter came hours late and got on stage after midnight instead of the stipulated time. I take him as my son and I forgave him," he said.
Another promoter said Moyo had to change his behaviour.

"He has become unreliable of late and we are not happy at all. He should change his behaviour because we might soon leave him out from our shows."
