Education minister David Coltart on Tuesday said Zimbabwe was paying a high price for failure to cater for students not academically gifted, but are good at practical subjects.
Coltart told a discussion forum held at Sapes Trust in Harare on the poor 2012 Zimbabwe Scholl Examination Council "O" level results that indicated only 18.4% of the students passed.
There was a realisation on the need to transform the education system.
He said the realignment will be part of a raft of measures to be implemented this year after Cabinet approved the ministry's medium-term plan (2011-2015) in May last year.
Coltart said efforts will be made to ensure teachers were adequately remunerated and that infrastructure at government schools was spruced up.
