Boris Johnson to resign as UK Prime Minister

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative leader today and will continue as prime minister until the autumn, the BBC has reported.

According to the broadcaster, "Johnson will publicly announce his resignation later today."

There has been intense pressure on Mr Johnson to quit after more than 50 resignations from all levels of government, and waves of backbenchers appealing for him to step down.
