The Movement for Democratic Change-United States (MDC-USA) External Assembly, a province of the MDC-T lead by President Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai will hold its Congress on September 20, in Lowell Massachusetts near Boston.
The Congress follows a decision by the Party to bring forward its Congress by almost two years after the unceremonial expulsion of its former Secretary General Tendai Biti and other members of the so called renewal team.
"The MDC-USA Provincial Executive met and deliberated on the choice of Congress venue and decided that the September Congress will be held in Lowell, MA. All seventeen Districts of record have been notified of this decision in an External Council meeting held two weeks ago. The decision is in line with the recently released MDC Elections Template spelling out the process of organizing and conducting elections at all levels of the party. The newly elected District Executives will make up the delegates to the Lowell Congress. All District elections are expected to be concluded by August 30, 2014," said outgoing MDC-USA Secretary Andrew Chaponda.
Meanwhile members and supporters who would like to attend the Congress are being urged to get in touch with the Boston Local District Congress Organizing Committee, lead by Chairman Marius Shumba to let their accommodation and transportation needs known.
"All aspiring District and Provincial Executive members will be required to follow the laid down membership and subscription guidelines before they can participate. Accreditation to the Congress will also follow the same script in order to allow for a smoother Congress to be supervised by the MDC National Chairman, Mr Lovemore Moyo. Members and supports who may not know which District to join are encouraged to contact the MDC-USA Secretary at ..mdc-usa.secretary-2011@mdc-usa.org," Chaponda added.
