Beitbridge man in court for bribing Police officer

Jonathan Madhuku (24) from Dulibadzimu appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Gloria Takundwa last week facing bribery charges after he offered Fibion Sayi a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police R100 bribe.
Sayi is stationed at Criminal Investigations Department (CID). State prosecutor Misheck Guwanda told the court that on November 10, 2016 at around 12am, Madhuku proceeded to Beitbridge Boarder Post and approached Detective Constable Sayi who was manning the CID Desk.
Madhuku presented a ZINARA gate pass with serial number 925051 with a 100 Rand note, serial number GD8246569D placed underneath it to Cst Sayi who was manning the CID exit vehicle clearance desk.
The accused did it in a bid to induce him to clear a Toyota Hiace motor vehicle registration number AEE 1831 so that the vehicle could be allowed to proceed to South Africa knowing that the vehicle had no requisite Police Clearance Certificate which is required for the vehicle to leave the country .
Detective Constable Sayi alerted his other team members including Detective Assistant Inspector Kaseke, Detective Sergeant Maphosa, Detective Constable Mukorera and Chikodzero.
Madhuku was immediately arrested and the money was recovered.
He was remanded out of custody on a US$50 bail to November 23, 2016 on which the case was further remanded to December 5, 2016.
