THE International Organisation of Migration (IOM has assisted 10 823 beneficiaries with emergency support in the form of litigation, counselling and medical support, food assistance, human rights awareness, and distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) material.
IOM made the revelations in its latest weekly updates and noted that the project partners also advocated and appealed with local authorities for the improvement in access to basic services and law reform.
"IOM provided 10 823 beneficiaries emergency support in the form of litigation, counselling and medical support, food assistance, human rights awareness, and distribution of IEC material. Project partners also advocated and appealed with local authorities for the improvement in access to basic services and law reform," reads the report.
IOM said it partner Civic Forum on Human Development (CFHD) hosted three civil society learning platforms in the Mbire, Chikomba and Murewa districts attended by 66 participants (35M/31F).
It said this is aimed at identifying mechanisms for strengthening human rights referral pathways that exist at district level and imparting practical knowledge and information that will deepen understanding of knowledge and information on human rights by the local communities and groups by building upon their experiences.
IOM said it partnered with the International Institute for Development Facilitation (IIDF) to conduct voter education exercises in Makoni and Mutasa.
This was with the view that many rural folks have no knowledge of their rights to vote for the leaders they want amid incidents of voter intimidation and coercing through various means.
