IT was a wedding with a difference yesterday, as two Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) officers tied the knot in outstanding military style at Charles Gumbo Barracks.
Clad in full Zimbabwe Presidential Guard military gear, Lieutenant Melusi Tafadzwa Mangena (27) and his sweetheart, Lieutenant Anita Gandawa (26) – a fellow officer with the 1 Air Defence Regiment exchanged vows.
It was a military wedding.
The bride and the groom's vehicles were escorted from Mt Pleasant to the venue by military police motor bikes and 14 soldiers all clad in military uniforms.
Colonel Joseph Nyakudya (Retired) solemnised the wedding and the military band provided music during the procession, while soldiers marched, showcasing their military way of conducting weddings. They did not disappoint.
The cake-cutting, with the sword of honour, exchanging of the vows and the signing ceremony were all conducted under the arch of swords of honour.
The guest of honour was Commander Presidential Guard Brigade, Brigadier General Fidelis Mhonda, who congratulated the two and wished them all the best in their union.
"I would like to thank you for following our dictates. You have led by example that ZNA is a disciplined force with law abiding members.
"We do not want to see our members be involved in immoral relationships, and I urge all other junior soldiers to follow this good gesture," said Brig Gen Mhonda.
