A 32-year-old Zimbabwean man based in the United Kingdom, Tanaka Zivanai, has pleaded guilty to the murder of 28-year-old Zanele Sibanda in Gloucester earlier this year. Zivanai also admitted to possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Appearing via video link from prison, Zivanai made the admissions at Bristol Crown Court on November 27. His guilty plea follows the tragic events that unfolded in the early hours of August 27, when police were called to the junction of Paul Street and Tarrington Road in Tredworth. Emergency services responded to reports of a man attacking a woman.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Zanele Sibanda with multiple stab wounds. Despite the swift response from paramedics, Zanele was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Zivanai was arrested the next day and charged with her murder. The Major Crime Investigation Team conducted an extensive inquiry, leading to his arrest.
Zivanai has been remanded in custody since his arrest and is due to be sentenced on January 14, 2025, at Bristol Crown Court. His case has brought attention to the severity of violence and its impact on communities, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crime.
