A 22-year-old Barbourfields woman was yesterday sentenced to one year which was wholly suspended for stabbing her husband using a screwdriver after she was caught sending a WhatsApp message to her ex-husband.

Mella Manatsi was also convicted of assaulting and biting Gabriel Madara's chin after he  snatched her phone and threatened to use it as infidelity evidence against her.

Passing sentence Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa warned Manatsi against engaging in violence.

She sentenced her to one year in prison which was wholly suspended.

Prosecuting, Kudakwashe Jaravaza told the court that on January 14, at around 3AM, Madara realised that his wife was texting her ex-husband using WhatsApp.

This did not go down well with him and he asked her what she was up to.

When she failed to respond, Madara took away the cellphone in a bid to secure evidence of infidelity so that he could show his  in-laws.

Manatsi then armed herself with a screw- driver and stabbed her husband once on the chest. She went on to hit Madara with an iron bar once on the forehead.

Manatsi also bit her husband once on the right chin.
