Zanu PF government system meant to maintain hegemony- Musewe

A political analyst Vince Musewe has said Zanu PF government designed a system in which its sole purpose was to maintain hegemony and remain in power at all costs.
He said every system is designed to give people the results that they get.
"There is no doubt that our political system and institutions have been designed by Zanu PF to maintain their hegemony despite the cry for a change in government. The issue here is that we must focus on changing that system first before we can expect different results," he said.
"Elections are meant to change those in power and not necessarily the system. If the system is not changed those who attain power area most likely to behave as required by the system. We saw that with the advent of black rule. We forgot to change the system and a black govt . merely continued as if nothing has happened. This is the same challenge South Africa now faces."
Musewe said the National Transitional Authority (NTA) is an attempt to change the system so that we get new results. The challenge remains first to convince citizens and second to cause adequate constructive disruption of the status quo so that those in power see the benefits of change," he said.
"We must create an incentive for them to want to change and it must cost them to continue to resist. Without unity of purpose we are doomed. Without coalescing around similar objectives we are doomed. The cacophony around coalitions means that some have not grasped the idea of fundamental change and reform. They want power now at all costs and are prepared to go for it alone if need be. That is a tragedy."
