A political commentator Ronald Midziā has said Zaniu PF despite continued economic crisis that has rocked the nation under its rule still command spirited grass roots support against the sprouting opposition political parties that threaten each other's chances of winning the polls.
He said in 2013 elections Robert Mugabe and Zanu Pf won resoundingly against the main rival Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC T. He said among other small parties were that contested the election were MDC N and Zapu.
"Zanu PF fired Joice Mujuru who then went to form her political party ZimPF which will contest in 2018. In MDC-T Tendai Biti resigned and went to form his own political party People's Democratic Party. Elton Mangoma also left and started his own outfit. Both Biti and Mangoma parties will be on the ballot paper come 2018. In addition, after 2013 elections Lovemore Madhuku formed the NCA party and has been contesting in Bi-elections around the country along side Ngarivhume's Transform Zimbabwe party. Also in play is Barbara Nyagomo' s Party." he said.
"Robert Mugabe and Zanu Pf still enjoy major grassroots support even though Mujuru left. Apart from support gained in 2013 Zanu Pf also gained more in Bi-elections. Tsvangirai and his MDCT have been the major victims of fall. From the little they had in 2013, Tendai Biti left with some whilst Elton Mangoma took his own fair share. As witnessed in Bi-elections TZ, NCA, ZimPF supporters or candidates are those who deflected from MDCT after 2013 elections.Joyce Mujuru ZimPf has generally poor support base that it will not stand the crippled MDCT in any election. The rest of the parties are obviously losers."
He said the rigging Zanu PF has already won the 2018 elections.
