Due to massive poverty vendors in Mbare Harare province have resorted to picking dumped fruits in dump areas, washing them before selling them in the Central Business District (CBD).
A survey by Bulawayo 24.com proved that a good number of people in Mbare Majubeki area are failing to put food on the table hence they end up picking dumped fruits posing serious health hazards.
The government has since banned fruit and vegetable hawking in Harare citing that 76 percent of typhoid is reported in the capital emanating from vendors mainly.
However, the vendors are resisting the move by government to ban fruit and vegetable hawking arguing it is insensitive to the poor people.
City of Harare spokesperson Michael Chideme said they recorded at least 30 cases of typhoid fever last year in Mbare.
